Waalre Home Tour

Waalre Home Tour: We lived in Waalre, the Netherlands from 2012-the end of 2016, and it was our favorite home. I saw that because we were happiest there. Happy with life, happy to entertain, happy to answer the door and go for walks, happy during storms… it was the backdrop to our happiest period in life thus far.

The Layout:

The layout was classic Dutch, in that you could close off the foyer and the upstairs, only heating the areas you were living in. The upstairs included two large bedrooms on either side of the house. One our boys shared, and the other the guest room/ music room. They shared a bathroom between them.

Downstairs we had a beautiful large sitting room, with french doors out to the garden and a grand fireplace, a small powder room and foyer, a garden room we used as the dining room, also with french doors out to the garden, a living room, kitchen, laundry, and primary suite.

Waalre Home Tour, The Neighborhood:

The neighborhood was home to former Phillips executives, and had beautiful mature trees, and the edges of the neighborhood backed up to many wooded trails, great for walking, horseback riding and exploring. There was a Michelin star restaurant within walking distance, polo fields, all the shops you needed, including an ice cream shop my boys loved to frequent, many other fine restaurants, soccer fields, golf courses, everything.

If I could custom build a house, I would replicate this floor plan, extending the kitchen and perhaps adding a library/ guest room on the main floor. But it lived well both for a family and for a couple. But it wasn’t just the house, the neighborhood was lovely also. I could still bike into Eindhoven, and it has a local airport too, which great accessibility to all of Europe.

Eindhoven:

Eindhoven City has much to offer to its’ inhabitants. Many great companies are based there, it is very family friendly, boasts an International School (ISE), Art festivals, design programs and fairs, tons of amazing restaurants, it’s dog friendly, and there is so much history there. It’s an incredible place to live and I miss it greatly!
