Let’s first look at the beautiful projects by Designer Rose Uniacke.

I think her website best describes her work:

Rose is well-known for her ability to create calm, balanced, refined interiors. They are elegant and understated, yet friendly and inviting.

Background:

She got her start in design as a trained furniture restorer, gilder, and specialist in lacquer and paints before becoming an antiques dealer. She now designs furniture and lighting, as well as working as an interior designer, shop owner and antiques dealer.

Looking at a sampling of her work in the images above and below, she seems to be a master in texture and tradition, but with a nod to modernity in her uncluttered environments. Often times coffee tables sit unadorned… empty, blank, as do floors baring unfinished wood.

Yet the space feels pulled together and complete. You could imagine walking right in to the room, taking a seat and putting your feet up. Fabrics include linen, velvet, or mohair, sometimes leather or jute.

Other key elements: an ornate mirror or chandelier, always color contrast, but somehow restrained. Not cold. You also see natural materials: wood, marble, leather, hide, and small hits of color. The result in beautiful and alluring.

I would love to walk through one of these spaces. There is only so much you get a feel for in photos and vignettes, but I wonder what the spaces feel like in person. They look incredibly livable and comfortable, inviting with gracious scale.

Her recently released book, Rose Uniacke at Home, Rizzoli, has already sold out. You might get lucky and be able to purchase a gently used copy. I will definitely be picking one up.
