Side Tables

Side Tables are one of the most versatile pieces of furniture you can own. They can be used as coffee tables, night stands, side tables, occasional tables, plant stands, and sometimes stools, like the India Mahdavi Bishop Table featured above. I often find myself moving my side tables around as our needs change, or even if I get bored of looking at the same profile.

Side tables can be useful occasional tables, if you pick a table that is light and can be moved easily. In the morning as we are grabbing breakfast, we often pull the Zanotta Tod Table next to the daybed, to serve drinks or snacks. The flexibility of a piece like this is particularly useful when you are entertaining.

Though I’ve just shown a small sampling of side tables I’m drawn to, the images above illustrate how diverse the materials can be, whether or not they include storage, the ability of the piece to float in a room, versus the USM pieces that would need to be against a wall or sofa, and the diverse price ranges of all of these pieces.

An antique table, or the HAY tray tables are very affordable. They also come in a huge range of colors, for example the Zanotta Tod, Hay Tray tables, USM tables, and the Mahdavi table/ stool, which allows you to introduce a pop of color, if that is your thing.

With their diverse styles and colors, your side table can have a huge impact on your space, and allow for more flexibility in the way you live and entertain. Think outside of the box the next time you are in the market for a side table or nightstand.
