Designer Paloma Contreras

It would be hard to be interested in interior design and not know of Paloma Contreras, her collaboration with lighting company, Visual Comfort, her podcast, Style Files, and her project work. The self taught designer just introduced a lighting collection with Visual Comfort and there are some gorgeous pieces in the collection.

Designer Paloma Contreras Background:

I think I first started following Paloma through her blog, La Dolce Vita. Then perhaps I followed her on Instagram, purchased her book, ordered from her shop, listened to her podcast and became obsessed.

If you study some of her earlier work, you can see how her style has matured and she’s become more confident and self-assured as a designer. Her book is fabulous as it gives you practical information about how to design for yourself, as she has learned first as a blogger and then as she opened her own firm, applying her practical experience to her professional projects with undoubtedly bigger budgets.

The Style Files:

Her podcast, The Style Files, gives you access to her conversations with some of the greatest designers of now, and an inside peak at how they run their businesses, and how they work through their creative processes.

With many designers, you begin to recognize their work after studying their style a bit. Paloma’s work is polished and playful but also soothing, with a sophistication and authenticity that not all designers have. There is a coordination and relationship of the pieces within her projects, but it doesn’t feel like a formula. I think this is because she continues to push herself and her boundaries.

One of my favorite spaces she’s designed is her dining room, in both iterations.
