Dimensional Art

Dimensional Art: I’ve discovered the work of Edith Beurskens through Instagram #edithbeurskens_art and I think I need one or several of her pieces in my home. I often tire of art, staring at the same image for months or years on end when we are used to the visual stimulation of a constantly changing scene allowed by modern technology. Over the past few years I’ve found myself drawn to dimensional art, and how it that jumps off the walls. Often it is not a set image but more of a shape, and I tire less quickly of forms than I do images. Take Verpan for example:

I love the way this piece commands your attention, but at the same time reflects light and does not compete, in color, but in form with the rest of the room. It is not an image you get tired of. And because the 9 pieces are individual, they can be arranged, if you did tire of the forms. They could also be mounted separately with space in between, like a set of 9 images. You could also keep more uniformity by order only one or two versions of the pyramids, rather than the three shown here.

Another example of 3d art is this fiberglass piece from Greenapple, photo courtesy of 1stdibs:

3D art is not new. Just think of a series of plates hung on a wall:

Another way to add dimension to a space is with wallpaper. This can be texture, like a seagrass wallcovering, or dimension, for instance a mural wallpaper.

Dimensional Art Mirrors

Mirrors and candelabra can also protrude from the wall and create interest. In my own home I love to use antique mirrors as art. They are visually less distracting and have the added benefit of bouncing light around the room.

So the next time you are looking to add art to your space, consider something a bit different… an antique plate or mirror, or some 3D art, wallpaper, trimwork, or even a neon sign!
