Prized Cream Colored Pants

I have been on a multi-year journey in search of the most comfortable and flattering cream colored pants. I find white pants or jeans to be a bit too cold in color temperature, like too many kelvins, and instead I prefer a warmer toned cream/ bone color for four season wear. I have tried everything from Ralph Lauren denim (which didn’t keep its shape) to Icebreaker (a brand I love and have other colors in the crush jogger, but they don’t offer a good cream), Jcrew, Lululemon, Eileen Fisher (some wins and some losses), Alo, and probably more brands that I’ve lost track of. These are the ones I now reach for.

Here are my winners:

Above, are the Jcrew Delaney sweater kick out pant in Ivory. I purchased a medium and it fits me well (typically a US size 6/ 8). These are a true ivory in color and look great with navy, cream, black, camel and many other colors. Not the most flattering on me, but I like the shorter leg length and the thickness of the pant.

This is the Eileen Fisher Soft Twill pleated Tapered Pant, size XS in color, Bone. I wasn’t sure about the tapered leg, but I find these pants to be a midweight, very comfortable pant that are flattering and versatile. I just wore them on the train from Zurich to Milan (very comfortable) and during Milan design week, paired with a silk tee and sweater blazer (Jcrew.) They dress up nicely and are super comfortable. The tapered leg can limit the shoes you choose, but overall they are very versatile. They feel like pajama pants but look like dress pants. (Win/ Win).

These are also from Eileen Fisher: the Silk Georgette Straight Ankle Pant in size XS and color, Bone. I prefer these to the Silk Georgette Slouchy Pant, which I didn’t find to be as flattering and ended up returning. I haven’t worn this pant as much as I anticipated. It is comfortable and flattering, but silk seems to take a more specialized occasion to wear. The weather has to be just so, and you can’t just go sit on a park bench or anything that may be less than clean. Also, it tends to feel cooler than other materials, so I don’t reach for them in cold or hot weather (less breathable). This doesn’t leave many times when you feel inclined to wear them.

These are the Eileen Fisher Slim Stretch Crepe Pant. I had them in an XS size in the Bone color, but just repurchased in the size Small. These pants are neither thin nor thick, so they can be a little see through if you are not wearing the correct size. Otherwise, I adore these pants and can wear them almost anywhere, dressed up or down, with sandals, mules, sneakers. They are so versatile, comfortable and elegant. They do not have pockets, but I don’t think it would suit the material. These are a gold star in my wardrobe. I also have them in black.

These are the Eileen Fisher Boiled Wool Jersey Pleated Wide Leg Pant in Small, in color Chalk. These are a recent acquisition and so I haven’t worn them out. I did need to have them hemmed to wear comfortably with sneakers. They are very flattering on and a nice weight for fall and winter. I imagine they will be a very versatile pant that I will wear often. The chalk color is more of a gray than a cream, but I like this cut so much I hope to purchase the black next year. I also am really loving the pleat. I find it flattering and comfortable.

Ralph Lauren Linen Pleated short

Not a pant, but in the same vein, these are the Ralph Lauren Pleated Linen short. I have found, at least in Europe, that their sizing seems to have changed and now, for me anyway, fits a bit smaller. I went up a size and bought an EU 38 (US 8) and it is still a bit snug. But these shorts are so gorgeous. They look great with a sweater and sandals or mules, a button down or t-shirt. I didn’t find my blazers to pair well though.

I should also mention that I machine wash (on a gentle cycle) all of these pants, but typically line dry. (I haven’t washed the Jcrew Delaney pant yet, or the boiled wool pant.)

I hope you’ve found this post to be helpful if you are on the hunt for not white, but winter white pants!
