Remaking of a Table:

I thought we would take a break from the travelogue to talk about simple changes with pieces you already own in your home.  I must admit, I tire of things quickly.  I get bored with seeing the same things displayed in the same way for long periods of time, even if it works.  It’s kind of like wearing your favorite sweater all winter.  It’s comfortable and makes you feel good, but you wear it too much and it moves from the “comfy, cozy, makes me feel good” category, to the “maybe I should get rid of this,” category.  Or is that just me?!  That’s when I like to hit the refresh button and find new ways to wear my favorite sweater.  This translates to furniture, too.  Take this old antique table, for example.  This is a purchase from our first home.   I was very proud of the marble top, isn’t it lovely?  But over time, the 70s golden paint with the faux aging got a little bit old.  So, I decided I needed to do something about that.  I started off with sanding it and the intention was to paint it black.  But once I started sanding, I found this gorgeous wood underneath the layers and layers of paint.   After tons of sanding by hand, a lot of elbow grease, and applying a paint removing substance, it still needs a bit of work and perhaps some power tools.  But it will do for now!  Take a look.

Remaking of a table: How I use the table today

I still have this table seven years later. I have protected the marble with sealer, and waterproofed the wood with Thompson’s waterseal multiple times, as the table lives outside with my outdoor furniture, adding the most gorgeous vintage touch with the modern Magis Voido Rocking Chairs.
