Road Trip: Durnstein

Prague and Vienna left us craving a bit of the country air, so we decided to take the scenic route to Salzburg via Durnstein.  These are the old stomping grounds of Richard the Lionhearted, who was imprisoned here in the Burgruine Durnstein castle during the third crusade by Leopold V of Austria.  The ruins of the castle remain an attraction to this day, as does the walled town, winding lanes, and local vineyards.   The climb to the castle could pose a challenge for the less adventurous.  Aside from the exciting history, this makes a great spot to stop for lunch and a sampling of the local apricot liqueur.
