Thanksgiving 2021

Celebrating Thanksgiving over seas is never quite the same as celebrating in the United States, with tons of friends and family surrounding your table, but we make a good effort here in Switzerland. Fortunately there are many Americans in the Zurich area, and others who are interested in learning about this tradition. Through the school community we managed a turkey trot and touch football! And there is always someone to recommend places to find the Thanksgiving essentials, like turkeys and cranberries, and to share their more successful recipes. When I’m in the US, I try to stock up on staples, like Crisco and gravy mix, to aid in my preparations. This year I cooked over two days, and experimented with make ahead recipes.

But in all honesty, my favorite part of Thanksgiving is setting the table. I opted for dry flowers for my centerpiece, and though the colors and textures fit the look, I really missed the softness of fresh flowers. Next year I plan to stick with a similar color palette, but choose fresh flowers instead.

Our table to from Restoration Hardware, and has been with us for years. You can see it in the Kirkland House Tour as well as the Waalre House Tour.

Our dishes are Paola Navone for Reichenbach.

I hope you had a fabulous Thanksgiving, wherever you celebrated!
